Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Review

Call of Duty has been one of the most popular game franchises to ever hit the stores. Modern Warfare’s 2019 release has been long awaited, and fans are eager to play their first matches. Let’s break down some of the first impressions of the beta and final release.

The beta for Call of Duty Modern Warfare was released in early September. I happened to get my hands on the beta, and I played it all throughout the weekend of its release. There are many different functions and points of interactions than in the previous games.

Unlike in every other Call of Duty, you are now able to open doors. The time to open is based on how fast your character is moving. If you are sprinting, the door flies open. If you are creeping up, the door will open much slower. You can also rest your weapons on objects to “post up.” Much like in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, you can run up to a wall or door, and you can tilt your body to look around, so you have a lesser chance of getting hit. Unfortunately, for Modern Warfare, the movement speed is too fast for you to do this in the main game modes. If you play more tactical modes like Search and Destroy, this is a tactic that will be heavily used because the pace is not as fast as Team Deathmatch or Domination.

The weapons in this game are resurrecting guns that have been previously used in past Call of Duty games. Some are brand new. From what the beta offered, the M4A1 is the best AR in the game, but you do have many more options with the full release. The best SMG is either the MP5 or MP7. The MP5 felt like you could rip apart enemies from across the map. It has low recoil and high fire rate.

Just like Black Ops 4, a new weapon section has been added. They are known as the Marksman Rifles. These are semi-automatic weapons that range from one to two bullet kills. One bullet being from the chest and up. The best of these would have to be the classic Kar98K.

For the snipers, you have new names of guns. You have the classic Dragunov, a semi-automatic sniper. Then you have the AX-50 and HDR. These are your bolt-action snipers. The AX-50 is basically the Barret .50 cal.

As with any first person shooter, there’s plenty of options to choose from. You can tailor your options to fit your style of play.

Senior Jimmy George went on record saying that absolutely loved the beta gameplay. He stated that he was looking forward to the classic feel of Call of Duty with the boots on the ground and no advanced movement. Jimmy stated, “ For the most part, the game looks and feels amazing.”

“The only downside that I saw was the mini map. They didn’t include it for most of the first weekend. Then they added it, but it wasn’t like the regular games. They just need to have a classic mini map. That was everybody’s complaint the first week,” Jimmy said. Jimmy also mentions that the classic feel of the Call of Duty will make it different from others. “It no longer involves the advanced movement and that futuristic feel. In my opinion, the advanced movements are what caused people to turn away from the game.”

There will be no crates in Call of Duty Modern Warfare. I thought that is what would make the game bad. I never liked them because they just consume your money. The creators will be introducing the Season Battle Pass. This is how you will acquire weapons and, new attachments, camos, etc. The upcoming DLC’s will all be free. You wont have to pay for them anymore.

Final thoughts

Over the first release weekend, I cancelled all of my plans, stacked up a lot of water, and began my weekend of non-stop grinding. As of typing this article, I am standing at a level of 54. It is super easy to rank up. If you play gun fight (2v2) or Spec Ops, you will level up pretty quickly.

The guns feel amazing. The only bad thing is the time to kill. If you don’t get first shot on your opponent, there’s no way you win that gunfight unless you hit every headshot. Or if their aim is bonkers.

The campaign to Modern Warfare has to be the best one since the MW3. It is very realistic and has you interacting with everything. Captain Price has made a return to the series. Everybody’s favorite captain is back and acts more assured than ever. Still has never lost his confidence or composure. However, the campaign is one of the shortest to complete. If you know what you are doing, it would probably take a maximum of five hours to complete. It is short, but sweet.

There are so many different ways you can play. And they make you play as certain characters you would never think of playing as. I won’t spoil it, but this game is great.
