Apple Products on the Decline?
For years Apple has been a major leader in the technology industry, but could they be on the decline? Apple is a Fortune 500 company and has been since 1983, but lately it seems their products are not getting any better.
For example the new iPhone 12 is just a bigger version of the brick iPhone 4. The only increases in function are the slightly better camera, power efficiency and durability, more power, and graphics performance.
Apple has also continued to add cameras which has increased to three cameras. In an article from 2004 it describes how it was the first 4g smartphone and now there has been 7 more iPhones and it has only increased to 5g.
Also, their MacBook’s have been the same since the very first one came out in 2006. The MacBook's have looked the same for almost fourteen years. Sure, they have been upgraded in speed otherwise the laptops don’t even work. People keep on buying the new MacBook’s and iPhone when they come out. It seems like the so called hype of Apple is disappearing before our eyes.
In an interview with Moeller senior, Adrian Taylor, I set out to find out if the newer Apple products were decreasing in popularity. He said, “I think that Apple has been on the decline for a little while now but I think around the Christmas season it will begin to incline again with the new iPhone being out and people are going to want it as a gift.”
When asked what it was that made Apple so popular, Taylor said, “I think it's just sort of a trend thing, like one person gets it and because of how they look and how they advertise the phone everyone wants it. It is also because almost everyone has had an iPhone at some point and all their iCloud and iPhone settings, username, passwords, etc. are in their iPhone and to switch to something like a Samsung is relatively difficult.”
When talking about whether he would switch to an Android or not he said, "Probably not just because it is way too much work.” The iPhone is really not that much better than the Samsung, Androids, and Google phones that are out right now but people continue to come back. In an article written by Lauren Goode, she says, "You can do pretty much everything on the iPhone 11 that you can do on the iPhone 12. The 12 just has a little more zip to it."
Apple has some great advertising which continues to make people come back. From 2007 until 2020 iPhone sales have increased steadily all the way up to 80 million phones a year.
So far in quarter two, from April to June, Apple has sold a total of 15 million iPhones . The thing about Apple is that when you go into a store looking for a new phone, there is always big Apple display signs and it draws you towards the iPhone. I think also they are pretty easy to work your way around and you do not need to be a tech whiz in order to use an iPhone.
In conclusion, although the hype around apple right now is not at its all-time high the sales and customer reviews continue to stay steady and their isn’t much complaining with the iPhone although they continue to be the same phone every year.
