Senior Band Profile: Alec Weaver
By Colin Young
Alec Weaver plays the tuba and the sousaphone. The tuba is a pretty common instrument, and most people know what it is, but the sousaphone is much different. The sousaphone is a member of the tuba family, but not many people know what it really is. The sousaphone is played standing up and allows for much different pitches and sounds.
Weaver has been playing these instruments for eight years! Weaver has had a great experience within the band all four years of his high school career. He enjoys playing and has had a lot of fun performing.
This year is different from the previous years of COVID because band members don’t have to use instrument covers. This allows for much better and louder sound, creating more enjoyable performances for both musician and audience. Weaver says that they also have more efficient practices after school, and he enjoys being able to actually play during football games.
One lowlight of Weaver’s career would be dropping his tuba and denting it freshman year. One highlight from was getting to have a tuba solo in a performance last year. Weaver says that he does not plan to participate in the band in college but definitely plans to continue playing his instruments for the rest of his life.
