A Christmas Story Christmas Movie Review

A Christmas Story is a timeless classic when it comes to holiday movies. For the 2022 Christmas season, the creator and star of the original movie, Nick Schenk and Peter Billingsley, decided to make a sequel featuring Ralphie as an adult.

A Christmas Story Christmas has been long awaited since it was announced, and it was released November 17th, 2022. In the movie itself, Ralphie goes through Christmas without his dad and spends the holiday season back in his hometown in his childhood house.

The movie brings nostalgia to adults who watched the original as children and builds from the reputation and following of the 1983 film. There have been other reboots of the film over the years such as My Summer Story in 1994 and A Christmas Story 2 in 2012, but neither compares to the nostalgia A Christmas Story Christmas brings.

With Ralphie’s dad suddenly passing, Ralphie must recreate the same exciting Christmas experience his dad gave him when he was a kid. He soon realizes all of the hard work that his dad put in to make the Christmas season so special for him and his brother.

Still, not all of the callbacks to the original film work well. Some are a bit awkward and can come off as predictable. One reference to the original that does work is the triple dog dare scene where Schwartz licks and gets stuck to a frozen pole. In the new film, they triple dog dare the adult Schwartz to sled down a huge, abandoned slide—another dare which he accepts. This was an enjoyable part to see them reference the original film and imply that despite the passage of years, adults are often still the same as when they were children.

Overall, this is a movie that is very entertaining, particularly if you enjoyed the original and like nostalgic trips down memory lane.
