Four Years at Moeller Ranked
High school is often perceived as one long experience, but in reality, each year is very different. As students move from freshman to senior year, their priorities, stress levels, and freedom all change. While every year has its pros and cons, senior year stands out as the best. This is followed by junior year, and then sophomore year. Freshman year is often regarded as the “worst”, even though I still enjoyed it a lot.
In my opinion senior year is the best year of high school. Seniors have more freedom with choosing their schedules and sometimes no final exams. It is also full of milestones: prom, senior night, graduation, etc. At this point, seniors feel confident and comfortable in the school environment. Although college applications can be stressful early in the year, things become much more relaxed after decisions are released. Senior year is also when friendships feel strongest, as everyone tries to make the most of their last year together.
Ranked second is junior year. This is the most important year for academics. Grades, GPA, and overall performance matter most for college preparation. With this importance comes more responsibility and harder classes, along with stress from standardized testing. Despite this, juniors are in the transition year of sports and improving their social life. For me, it included my favorite soccer season, which made it very enjoyable and memorable. Even though it can feel like a grind, junior year is rewarding because it sets up senior year, and this is when students really start to settle into the school. Their friendships become stronger and they start to have more freedom, such as being able to leave during M-block.
Sophomore year is a sort of transition year. Students are in an awkward position during this year. They are more comfortable than freshmen but still have limited freedom with having to stay in M-block. Classes become more challenging, but not overwhelming. It can feel less memorable since it lacks the importance of junior year and the milestones of senior year, but it has its highlights. For example, my soccer season. My team had its best statistical year where we went undefeated up until the state final. Overall, it serves as a foundation to be an upperclassman.
Freshman year is the most difficult because it involves the biggest adjustment. Students enter a new environment with new expectations and often feel out of place. Depending on where the freshman is coming from, they can potentially enter Moeller knowing nobody that goes there, making it hard to find friend groups and get involved. While it is usually easier academically, it is more challenging socially. With this being said, it is still a lot of fun and makes you excited for the years to come.
In conclusion, each year of high school offers a different experience. Senior year ranks first, followed by junior, then sophomore, and finally freshman year as the least enjoyable. Even so, each year plays an important role in shaping the high school experience.
