NBA 2K22 Current Gen vs. Next Gen
With next generation console sales (PlayStation 5 and X Series X) on the rise, developers are in a rush to put out next gen games for players. NBA 2k developers, 2K Sports and Visual Concepts decided to put out 2k22 with two separate versions of the game, one for next gen consoles and another for current gen. It is obvious which game more people are playing, and it is a surprise to most that it is actually the current generation game more My Career players are flocking to. “Ultimately, if you’re simply trying to play park games and don’t need all of the extra features then the current gen version is just what you would want”. A majority of 2k streamers and Youtubers are even choosing the current gen version.
I have been playing 2k games since I first started playing video games. My first 2k was 2k14, so I have seen the good and bad games that 2k has made. In my opinion, the current gen version is the better game. Although there are more similarities than differences in the versions of the game, there is still plenty of reason to choose the current gen version over the next gen, especially when you consider that it is $10 cheaper. One of the main arguments, which I stand behind, is that the current gen My Career mode is much better all around. The current gen park in My Career is better looking and easier to get around than the next gen city. The current gen My Career game mode on the current gen version of the game is overall quicker, more compact, and easier to find games to play. The player builder on current gen is also simpler.
The main hesitations for recommending Next Gen NBA 2k22 over current gen for park players would likely have to be missing out on the newer graphics and more elaborate player builder, at least at this point. Next gen players also make the argument that the new city (park) where you play your online My Career games, is something that current gen players are missing out on. They argue the extra challenges and events offered on next gen out weighs the quick travel and compact park.
