3 Deadly Sins of Horror

We’ve all seen horror movies, but most of the time, nobody even knows what movies are the best because everyone says they’re all the same. Well, you’ve got someone who has seen every horror movie you can possible imagine and can rank top 3 on any genre related to horror. So with that being said, here is my top 3 best horror movies of all time.

While not traditionally scary to everyone, watching Hereditary alone at midnight made it deeply unsettling for me. The film follows a grieving family unraveling after the death of their secretive grandmother, who was involved in a demonic cult. Annie, the mother, becomes haunted by visions and grief after her daughter Charlie, who exhibits odd behavior, dies in a horrific accident. As Annie tries to contact Charlie through a ritual, she unknowingly unleashes a dark force tied to the demon Paimon. Her son Peter is slowly consumed by terror as the truth unfolds, leading to a chilling finale where he becomes the vessel for Paimon. This film earns the #3 spot for its disturbing atmosphere, shocking twists, and lasting uneasy if not everyone finds it scary.

An instant classic that everyone should watch at least once. The film follows Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance, who takes a winter caretaker job at an isolated, massive hotel with his wife Wendy and son Danny. As the long, lonely winter sets in, Jack slowly descends into madness, haunted by the hotel’s dark history and supernatural forces. One of the most iconic moments is when Wendy discovers Jack’s manuscript, he’s been obsessively typing “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” instead of working. Jack’s hallucinations grow more violent, culminating in him chasing Wendy and Danny with an ax. The tension builds to a thrilling climax as Danny outsmarts Jack in a snow-covered maze, leading to Jack freezing to death. For a horror film from 1980, The Shining remains unforgettable thanks to its gripping story, eerie atmosphere, and Jack Nicholson’s masterful performance, securing its place as my #2 pick.

My #1 horror movie is Smile. It follows Rose, a mental hospital worker who encounters a client cursed with a terrifying smile that leads to deadly hallucinations. After the client’s horrific suicide, Rose gets cursed too and begins seeing the demon everywhere, losing sleep and sanity. With help from her friend Joel, she uncovers past cases of the curse and tries to end it at her childhood home. But the demon isn’t gone, it transfers to Joel when Rose sets herself on fire. The film’s acting, story, and unexpected twists kept me terrified the whole time. It’s a must-watch for horror fans. These movies are all unique in their own ways, different directors, and different stories. I would recommend everyone to watch these movies once in their life just because of how good they are.
