NFL RedZone Delivers Nonstop Action for Fans
There are reports of redzone adding commercials and fans are outraged. Redzone’s identity has been built off by having no ads. RedZone was a solution to never-ending commercial breaks. The fans pay to have the luxury of flipping through every single NFL game, and now they are paying for ads. Adding commercials would break the promise that made RedZone unique.
Yes, the NFL must make money, and it is no shocker that they are looking for new ways to make money, but they already make enough money on ticket sales and merchandise. RedZone is not just another broadcast slot, it is a paid product by consumer. Incorporating ads into Redzone is the same as adding stop signs on a racetrack, it ruins the whole experience.
The NFL has already found a way to put an ad in every corner of the sport; they have sponsorships and tv ads. Logos of brands are everywhere from patches on jerseys to nonstop ads on normal broadcast the NFL has gotten every fan used to football being one big as. Redzone was a place where fans could take some of the ads out and enjoy watching the game they love.
By adding ads, the NFL jeopardizes losing the RedZone audience and losing the success Redzone has always had. Fans do not just want to watch the game; they want to watch an uninterrupted game. They want to be able to flip through every game and enjoy the ad free subscription they paid for.
If the NFL wants to find a new way to generate revenue, they should find another way without ruining the best subscription for their fans. Everyone loves RedZone for how it is, so why change it?
