The World of Politics in 2026

The world of politics can be confusing and stressful, and this year is no exception. This year has already been a lot with the number of military conflicts, the things happening within the US itself, and the world of foreign policy starting to fracture leaving people confused and overwhelmed. I’m aiming to explain the five big questions and events of the world today, as well as get a perspective from other students about these five topics.

The Epstein files are documents that detail the criminal activities and social network of Jeffrey Epstein and his sex trafficking ring, these files mention the people who were supposedly involved with Epstein and who participated in his criminal activites. The Venezuela situation happened at the start of this year, and it was a surprise military attack that resulted in capturing the then-leader of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro. The current Iran conflict started late February, with the US and Israel instigating the fight because of the threat of Iran obtaining nuclear weapons. The foreign policy issues have been going on for much longer than just these three months, but in those three months, the US has lost some foreign connections and respect in a way because of the tariffs the US is implementing and the threats of taking over Greenland or Canada. The domestic policy issues are mainly based around ICE and the events that sprung up in Minnesota dealing with ICE shootings.

These events cause a lot of stress and create a lot of opinions on these issues. To see these opinions, I interviewed and emailed a few students from Moeller to observe some perspectives on these issues. I asked them if they would like to remain anonymous, which everyone said yes, and then asked them five questions; what their opinions are of the Epstein files, their opinions of the Venezuela situation, their opinions on the Iran conflict, their opinions on the current state of foreign policy, and their opinions on the current state of domestic affairs. One student answered:

Epstein Files - those involved in the exploitation of children should be brought to justice. However, it seems that the investigation has become theatrics and just a distraction.

Iran - The United State needs to liberate the opposed people of Iran from their corrupt and tyrannical regime, but the United States needs to prevent needless deaths of American soldiers and economic disruptions.

Venezuela - The US was justified in entering Venezuela to bring a narco-terrorist to justice.

Foreign policy - The United States needs to collaborate and talk to our allies instead of insulting them and leaving them in the dark.

Domestic - The domestic policy of this administration has been a failure. They have constantly changed policy and damaged the confidence that consumers and business have in this country. It has instilled fear in American communities and harmed institutions that have built America.

Another student answered:

Epstein Files - Trump is on them stop the cover up

Iran - Congress should make a rulling on funding the bombing and there should be apsluoty no boots on the ground.

Venezuela - We broke US and international laws and trump is a oil hungry pig

Foreign Policy - Awful are foreign partners are what make America great and we need to so when we tell them to to bend the knee to us it makes us look bad and starting a trade war with china is very very stupid

Domestic - Not great ice needs to be investigated for there actions and people should be charged but never will, stop hiding the jobs report and just because the snp 500 hit all time highs does not mean the economy is doing well

And finally when I interviewed Sam Martin, he said he refused to comment.
