Moeller Students Celebrate Eveslage Day!

On January 11th, Moeller students celebrated Larry Eveslage Day. Members of the Eveslage House honored Brother Larry Eveslage by wearing their house shirts.

Brother Larry Eveslage, affectionately known as “Big E,” is Moeller High School’s founding principal. Brother Eveslage encouraged strong bonds through athletics and student activities and most significantly, established an expectation of maturity, accountability, and self-discipline. He is considered to be the main driving force in establishing many of the Marianist and school traditions. These traditions are still being honored today as the core of Moeller's pride and heritage. Brother Eveslage is credited for first introducing the term, “Men of Moeller.” This phrase is the cornerstone of Moeller’s culture as it can be seen in a plethora of places around Moeller and billboards around Cincinnati.

Brother Eveslage is alive in Moeller today through the House System. In 2005, Moeller established the House System, and each house at Moeller is named after an important person or place in the Catholic Marianist Tradition. Moeller honored Brother Eveslage by naming one of the six houses after him. Moeller wanted to create a house that was unique to the school’s history, and Larry Eveslage best exemplified what it meant to live and teach in the Marianist tradition. He was truly a Man of Moeller.

Larry Eveslage has left an impact on the Moeller community forever. He is seen as a role model for students like Kyle Havens. Havens is one of the senior house captains for Eveslage House, along with Noah George. The Crusader spoke with Havens about his time in Eveslage House.

Crusader: What does it mean to you to be a senior captain in Eveslage House?

Havens: Being able to lead the house has been a great experience. It has helped build leadership experience for the future and helped build relationships with a lot of people.

Crusader: How does it feel to represent Eveslage?

Havens: Being able to represent Eveslage means a lot to me. I am able to step into a large role in the Moeller community. Being a part of Eveslage house comes with certain characteristics I feel I have to represent. Working hard and being honest, for example.

Crusader: Is Eveslage going to win the House Cup this year?

Havens: Oh yeah. There is no doubt about it. We just need to get over this small hill and then it is smooth sailing from there. The comeback is going to happen.
