A Step towards Safety
This September, at the start of the 2025-2026 school year, Moeller will implement a significant change to its security system. It begins with an "I" and ends with a "D". If you guessed I.D., then you’ve hit the jackpot. As D. Wills has explained, the I.D.s are being assembled and prepared to be integrated into the Moeller dress code, with each student receiving their own. Additionally, students will receive an ultramodern lanyard to accompany the I.D. The I.D. will be considered part of the dress code and must be worn every day, and if you are a person that forgets stuff then prayers up to you. These I.D.s will also be used to access doors throughout the school, at least to areas authorized for student access.
There are several major benefits to this new idea. For instance, many teachers will be able to identify students, which will help them determine who is causing problems in the school. The ID cards will also allow only authorized individuals to enter and exit the school premises. This would allow for students that are late to enter through the side doors and get to class as quick as possible. This would allow for more security and create a safer environment for both teachers and students. This would reduce attempts to break and enter the school and minimize disruptions to class time caused by unusual event. This would be a significant improvement in school safety by preventing potential threats from entering schools. The only way to protect people, especially students, from violence is to implement necessary precautions.
With the I.D.s being introduced for the first time at the school, this could also have a negative impact on Moeller students. One major drawback of this project is the push to make it part of the Moeller dress code. Since many students tend to be forgetful, there could be a significant increase in detention and dress code violations. This policy will really test the student body with remember to bring their I.D.s, who have never had this type of system before.
With the commencement of the project just being a few weeks away, there is still much that the student body and many teachers do not know. For instance, what will the ground rules and expectations be for these new devices? Which areas will students be allowed to access using their cards? Will students be able to enter the locker room and AC at any point in time? Or most importantly what will happen if a student forgets their I.D. at home? Will they be given a spare or will they have to continue the day without it and risk dress code violations? Since this is the first year of implementing this new system, hopefully there will be a solution to ease the transition, but only time will tell.
