Personal Essay: Basketball Season Is Almost Here!

By Nick Williams

As winter approaches, my teammates and I, along with many other students and fans, are looking forward to the basketball season.

Being a part of the basketball team for the last three years has been one of the best experiences of my life, and it is crazy that my Moeller basketball career is coming to a close. I’ve had a very different journey than most of the other basketball players, so I wanted to interview a different player and position, so I decided to talk to Center Jason Hennings.

When asked about his Moeller basketball experience, Jason said, “I’ve loved all four years. I started on the freshman team, then moved up to JV, and then to varsity my junior year.” When asked about his growth over his career, he said, “Being a freshman was different. I was new to the program and looked up to the older players, so I could learn and be the best player I could. My JV year was different too. Felt like I was “in-between” and felt more comfortable and was gaining confidence in myself. And now, it being my senior year, I feel more as if it is my job to pull up the younger guys and to be a leader for them.” Hennings went on to say of his final year, “I want a great year for my brothers. It’s the last ride for me and the other five seniors, and I keep trying to focus on the journey, rather than the destination. It is always about the things that we do every day, the relationships we build, and the habits that we form. And the results will take care of themselves.”

The first home game is most likely to be vs St. Vincent-St. Mary on December 3rd. Be there!
