Moeller Football Wins Back-to-Back GCL Titles
The Moeller football team has won back-to-back GCL titles after an exciting win over Elder at the Pit on Friday, September 29th. The team also improved to 4-3 on the year while having an extremely difficult schedule.
During the game against Elder, many players made big contributions to the win. Jordan Marshall had a great game and broke the Moeller career rushing record once held by 2001 Moeller graduate Marcus Blanks. The Havoc Mob defense led by Nick Sharp showed out with an impressive total of four interceptions. Drew Robinson, Nick Leonard, Griffin Daley, and Karson Hobbs all added a pick against Elder.
Moeller has played some tough competitions this year, including Bishop Dwenger and St X. The team has put countless hours into practice and has capitalized in almost every game so far.
The Crusader asked two current players their thoughts on what it feels like to win the GCL. Moeller Junior Defensive Back Micah Rice said, “It feels good to win the GCL title, I loved playing in that environment.” Wide Receiver Preston Smith adds, “It feels good. It feels like we deserved it and worked very hard for it. I hope to see St. X in the playoffs.”
Moeller has three regular season games left: St. Ignatius, St. Edward, and MLK Jr. All three games will be tough competition for the team and will be very fun for fans to watch. MLK Jr. won the state championship game in the state of Michigan two years in a row.
Moeller looks to make a very successful playoff run, with the goal of winning a state championship in mind. Good luck to the Crusaders this Saturday at Mount St. Joe! Remember, this game is a house event as well, so be sure to come out and support both the team and your house!
