Rising Stars: Moeller Lacrosse
Moeller Sophomore’s, Hunter Hemphill and Michael Samoya, came out with a bang in their varsity debuts against the Springboro Panthers.
With the addition of the sophomore duo’s combined three goals, the Crusaders Lacrosse team would go on to defeat the Panthers 10-6. Continuing to play nine more games the Crusaders have a record of 5-5. With these tough losses but also impressive wins, Hemphill and Samoya have been big contributors.
The Crusader got the chance to talk with Hemphill before the season. Hemphill, who started playing Lacrosse in the third grade, spoke highly of his JV season. He hoped that he could transfer all of his skills to the varsity. His six goals scored on the season would say that he was successful in doing so.
One of Hemphill’s standout games was against the Loveland Tigers. Hemphill was sixty-six percent from the field school scoring two goals. One of those goals being assisted by his sophomore teammate, Samoya
Hemphill in that same game returned the favor to Samoya with an assisted goal himself. With the addition of that goal Samoya has a total of five goals for the season. Samoya told the Crusader “Me and Hunter have good chemistry on and off the field.”
Moeller Senior Jack Regruth says Samoya also dds a component to the game that can’t be kept in the stat sheet:
“He [Samoya] brings a lot hustle to our team. He goes hard on both sides of the ball, offense and defense. That is an important skill for a mid-fielder to have.”
Samoya is proud of the team so far this season. He is also not discouraged by the teams record and is in high hopes of a state title.
The boys are thankful for the Moeller community and the support that they received. They hope that fans continue to show out. The teams next game is tonight at 5:30 verses the Milford Eagles.
