Does Moeller Hockey have what it takes to win?

As winter is approaching, we are only a couple weeks away from a new variety of student-engaging sports. One of our most popular winter sports, Hockey, is expected to put on a show this year as they have been doing for the past several years for our school. However, with the class of 2024 gone and new upcoming Juniors and Sophomores taking their spots, it can be hard to predict, from a watcher’s perspective, how this team will kick it off this year. Will we be horrible? Will we be unstoppable?

Here are some insights from our Hockey athletes on how they think this season will go for them:

Questions:

1)      What strategies do you use to improve your performance (Off season and in season)

2)      Do you believe others on your team are as motivated as you are?

3)      Do you think we have what it takes to go undefeated?

4)      Pregame song that secures the win:

Finn Friede

1)      “I think playing in practices and games where it’s not super serious, so it is easy to try new things and not worry about screwing up. Other than that, also working on shooting and stick handling around the house helps a lot.”

2)      “Yes, the seniors this year are brought into making this season the best it can be and everyone this off season has been at practice and in the weight room.”

3)      No, hockey has a long schedule, and it is unheard of to go undefeated. Our goals are to play every game as hard as possible and if we do that the outcome doesn’t matter that much.”

Jacob Sackenheim

1)      “Being disciplined about time management to make room for working out and completing schoolwork as well as eating healthy to maximize my energy and performance.”

2)      “100%, it’s hard to be self-motivated so with others bringing motivation to everyone at lifts and practices it shows that a lot of people want to win and get better just as you do.”

3)      “There’s always a possibility of going undefeated, it’s a challenge to play your best every game and sometimes your best isn’t enough. We have a lot of really good teams in our division which makes it an even greater challenge. One simple mistake can mean the game so really anything can happen. It comes down to the little details that wins the game.”
