Moeller High School Celebrates 2024 Signing Day

Moeller High School celebrated the class of 2025 seniors on Wednesday, December 4, as they marked their commitment to different colleges. There was a packed crowd with the atrium overflowing with people forcing them to watch on the stairwells. There were 19 student athletes committing to seven different sports.

The baseball program led the way with nine signees, including standout players like Carter Christenson, who will be heading to Ohio State University, and Zion Theophilus, who will play at Louisiana State University. Other signees from the baseball team include Griffin Booth (La Salle University), Jake Bell (Bellarmine University), Finn O’Keefe (Thomas More University), Logan Rosenberger (Defiance College), Will Schirmer (Ohio Dominican University), Charlie Valencic (Radford University), and Joey Watts (Wabash Valley College). There will be more to come in the spring signing day with some players hoping to spark some interest in coaches this season. There are other members of the team who have committed to schools in the past but are not currently committed. This team is hoping to have a state championship year with this strong senior class.

The football team, which had a standout season making it to the state finals, also saw two of its key players Jonah Hayes (Northwestern University) and Matt Fogler (Colgate University) earn athletic scholarships. Their success on the field played a big role in the team's remarkable season.

From the sport of soccer, Paxton Hafner’s commitment to Carnegie Mellon University was recognized. Paxton’s impact on Moeller’s soccer team helped them reach the state semifinals this year, and his commitment to both athletics and academics is why he is going to one of the nation’s top academic schools.

Landon Harris of the golf team had a record-breaking season. One of his most impressive accomplishments was shooting a 65 breaking the lowest round record. He also carded a 69 at sectionals, advancing the team to the district championship. He was solid the whole year and led this team to state. He will bring this leadership to Wright State University and be successful.

Three seniors from the lacrosse team Max Warnecke, Justin Sonny, and Hunter Hemphill earned their college commitments to Ohio Northern University and Maryville University. These players, under the leadership of a new head coach, have impressed with their leadership skills, and I’m sure it will lead them to a successful senior season.

Ryder Hicks, an impressive swimmer who will continue his career at the University of Louisville. Ryder Hicks seems to be the next Michael Phelps with the perfect swimmer build. He is not only a great swimmer but enjoys photography on the side.

Finally, the Moeller basketball team, which just began its season, saw two members Kingston Land (Indiana State University) and Brady Franz (Coker University) commit to play at the college level. Kingston, a 6’10 forward, and Brady, a 6’6 forward, are big contributors who hope to lead the team to state this year.

Every signee was recognized by their head coach saying a few words about these athletes’ dedication to their respective sport. While this signing day had tons of commits, the spring signing period will promise many more opportunities for Moeller’s athletes. This is just the beginning for these incredible athletes, and the Moeller community will support these students every step of the way.
