Moeller Golf Rebuilds and Rises in 2025

Heading into the 2025 golf season, the Moeller Crusaders faced the challenge of rebuilding their team after graduating a talented senior class of five golfers. Among those graduates was one of the most accomplished players in Moeller golf history, making the task even more daunting. However, this year’s senior class rose to the occasion, stepping up and showcasing their own talent throughout the season.

Senior Joey Oliver reflected on the season, saying, “It went pretty good with a lot of ups and downs.” The Crusaders started strong with impressive tournament performances but experienced a stretch of inconsistency mid-season. Despite the setbacks, they finished the season on a high note.

One of the team’s most memorable victories came at the Hadley Memorial Invitational, where Moeller outperformed 20 other teams to bring home the trophy. That win set the tone for the rest of the season and proved the strength of their roster. The momentum carried into the OHSAA sectional tournament, where senior Griffin Valencic led the team with a score of 70, helping Moeller post a final score of 309 and secure a spot at districts. Another highlight was their third-place finish at the Forest Hills Country Club match play tournament, which boosted team morale and confidence.

Not every match went their way. In the first GCL quad match, the Crusaders finished second, and in the second, they placed third. While they fell short of their goal to win the GCL, they didn’t let those results define their season.

Reflecting on what made this year different, Oliver said, “We had a lot more team morale and camaraderie, and overall, we just wanted to play good golf.” In previous seasons, the team bond hadn’t been as strong, but this year’s seniors made it a priority to build team spirit and support one another—especially on tough days at the course. Despite the ups and downs, players agreed that team chemistry continues to improve each year.

From invitationals to league play, the Crusaders consistently finished near the top of the leaderboard. With the district tournament on the horizon, the team is aiming for a chance to qualify for state.

Looking ahead, Moeller will face the challenge of replacing eight graduating seniors: Joey Oliver, Thomas Dyjak, Jonathan Gerbus, Peter Swallender, Griffin Valencic, Callen Lay, Ethan Tymitz, and Kyler Nunn. Despite the loss of so much talent, Oliver remains optimistic. “The team’s future looks very bright because of the talent the underclassmen showcased this year,” he said.

With a strong foundation and promising young players returning next season, the future of Moeller golf looks bright. The team can expect many successful seasons ahead.
