Player Spotlight: Johnny Michel

The Moeller Soccer team is in the midst of a phenomenal season as the boys are 11-0 and currently ranked third in the nation. To learn more about this team and the current success they are having, I interviewed varsity starting striker, Johnny Michel, and we talked in depth about the team this year and his background and soccer journey.

Michel attended All Saints grade school and was a multi-sport athlete growing up, playing not just soccer, but also golf, baseball, and basketball. He answered a few questions about the team this year and how he views his role.

Crusader: What’s been the secret behind the success this year for Moeller?

Michel: I think this year we have all really bought into what Coach Welker and his coaching staff have been teaching. We all know our roles, not only on the pitch but off of it as well. Every day is a grind from the boys, and we push ourselves to the limits every training session. Everyday, we hope to get better in some aspect of the game, and we have been doing that so far.

Crusader:  How do you view your roll on the team?

Michel: I view my role on the team as a guy who goes out everyday and gives 100% of his effort. No matter when or where, I feel I am able to set the tone from the get-go through the passion I have for the badge on my shirt.

Crusader:  Favorite memory from Moeller soccer?

Michel: Favorite memory has to be the bus trip to Indiana earlier this season. The boys were buzzing all weekend long as we went 2-0 against two very tough opponents. The team vibes were high to say the least.

Crusader: What is in the future for Moeller soccer?

Michel: There is only one thing on everyone’s mind and that’s winning state for the first time in Moeller soccer history. The lads aren’t going to stop grinding until we are at the ring ceremony come November.

At the end of the interview, Michel mentioned that he will likely be attending college at either Miami (OH) or Indiana to study finance. He also added that the Moeller soccer team is just as good on the virtual pitch as they are on the soccer pitch, saying they have the best FIFA pro clubs team in the nation.

A big thank you to Johnny Michel for the interview and best of luck to him and the Moeller soccer team throughout the rest of the season.
