Call of Duty: Vanguard, An Engaging WWII Experience

The new Call of Duty recently came out! Created as a joint effort by Sledgehammer Games, Treyarch, Beenox, Demonware, High Moon Studios, Activision Shanghai Studio, and Toys for Bob, COD Vanguard is an entertaining fast paced game.

My personal experience with Call of Duty games has gone back to a few years. I have played Modern Warfare and Cold War each for around 6 months. For these games, I have mainly been intrigued with the multiplayer and the different modes that are offered. When someone is looking to play a Call of Duty game, they choose between either multiplayer or Warzone, which is a battle royal game. Personally, I enjoy multiplayer because it is always enjoyable with a quick respawn, which means almost immediate return to combat.

The game takes place in the Pacific Theatre of WWII. The creators have succeeded at making an exciting, unique setting. Maps include a submarine pen, a fort protecting from invading Japanese troops, or a town that has been bombed and invaded. Maps like these create a fun engaging landscape.

The clothing characters and players can use also date to this time period. Characters such as a pilot who has crashed, an American sniper, or a Japanese infantry troop bring the game even more into the WWII setting and add a lot to the game.

Vanguard specifically stands out among other shooter games and among other Call of Duty games.First, there is less lag than other games. With so many players in the same game and in close quarters, there would likely be lots of lag and game skips. This has not been the case for this game. This is little to no lag with even not a great Wi-Fi connection. This makes the game more pleasant and fair. This game is very fair in general. If not for the lack of lag and game skips making it a good game, than for the skill-based matchmaking.

While playing this game, it is difficult to notice, but there really is skill-based matchmaking. A player will be put into individual matches with other players with relatively the same skill. This makes the game fair and is refreshing from other games. It makes each match a good fight for the win.

Vanguard has the same mix of game modes similar to other Call of Duty games in the past. If a player wants a very fast paced game, they can choose team deathmatch. If they want a slower paced strategical mode, they can choose search and destroy. There are many others in between as well, which keeps the game refreshing and stops it from getting repetitive.

There is also an option for how many other players are in each match. This has not been an option on previous COD games, but it is a nice change. It adds another component to how fast paced or strategic the player wants.

Overall, this new Call of Duty provides players with a fun game and gives them options to customize their game to pace and strategy level that they want. It brings the player to the time period and creates an awesome engaging experience.
