Kurt Warner's American Underdog

An underdog is someone who has been counted out multiple times but never counted themself out. People tend to give up when they are told that they won’t or can’t accomplish their dream. Kurt Warner did not listen to what people told him because no matter people said, he was determined to accomplish his dream. Whether he had to use food stamps, beg his coaches to put him on the field as fifth year senior, there was no quit in Kurt. He had full belief in himself and God that he would end up as a quarterback in the NFL.
The movie that came out on December 25th, 2021, American Underdog is about Kurt Warner and his journey to get to be the Hall of Fame quarterback that he became. Zachary Levi from Shazam acts as Kurt Warner and does a great job showing Kurt has a lot more underneath the helmet and a true heart. He does a pretty good job at playing quarterback and acting like one on and off the field. Not only does he do a good job but his wife Brenda Warner, who is acted by Anna Paquin does a great job as well. Anna Paquin is an academy award winner and acted in movies such as True Blood and X-Men. Brenda does a fabulous job Showing what she was going through before Kurt came into her life. They both do an incredible job acting together and make a great team acting together for caring about her kids and making a relationship that is very hard work.

The directors are brothers of Jon and Andrew Erwin. This is their first big film breaking the ice and showing of how they can direct a great movie. They’ve also directed movies like Woodlawn, I Can Only Imagine, October Baby, and I Still Believe. The Directors do a great job of showing the real Kurt Warner Film and making their own story of the game combining the two different films. The cinematography was amazing and is what really stood out to me. When he was playing Quarterback, you could see through his vision of what was happening. And just the shots of Iowa made you feel like you were there and in the moment.
The acting by the football coaches was insane. They really showed the true doubt they had in Kurt Warner to lead a football team successfully and he showed so much perseverance. From being undrafted out of college to said no by NFL teams, the acting in the coaches really shows the doubt people have in him.
All in all, American Underdog is a solid 7.5/10 and is a great sports movie. It motivates all people to follow their dream and never give up. The impossible is possible and we should always follow our dreams and trust God’s plan for us. This will be known as a sports movie for the books and people will start to recognize the movie as time goes on.
