A Senior Year Tradition: Moeller House Putt-Putt '23

The Moeller House System recently had its annual house putt-putt event at The Acres in Evendale.

Every year, a group of seniors from each house participates in these games. The goal is to get the lowest combined score amongst the top 5 golfers from their respective houses. When interviewing Senior Noah Smith, a Pillar House golfer, he said, “House putt-putt is a house competition designed just for seniors. We play for house points and a chance to boost our house in the race for the Marianist Cup.”

Smith went on to say, “It is a fun event that brings the guys together for a friendly competition for house points.” During this event, the guys are able to initiate easy and non-forced conversation to create bonds between people who may have never talked before the event.

On the day of the event, the weather was not ideal with overcast skies all afternoon. However, Smith said that the poor weather didn’t deter any excitement, and “everyone was still ready to have fun and were definitely very competitive, hoping to score their houses some points.”

One thing that seems to increase each year as students get older is the competitiveness for events like these. As freshman, many of the students might not care about how their house is doing, but as seniors, it is one of the things that many students find fun. Many seniors will find themselves getting lost in the competitive spirit of events like house putt-putt, house soccer, or the Crusader games!

I also had the opportunity to participate in the event and thought it was a lot of fun. There was a healthy amount of smack talk, which made it even better. I think that many of the seniors who participated would have the same opinion as Smith and I on this event. To anyone who will be a senior next year, I would recommend participating in this if you get the chance.
