Return of the OG Map

The old map has returned!

Fortnite has finally listened to its players and brought back the old map for season five. Many players have been awaiting this for a very long time.

Looking at the recent history of the game, many people had stopped playing due to boring updates and aggressive gamers. This ultimately made the game a lot less fun. For many members of Gen Z who grew up playing Fortnite, the game had lost its appeal in recent years. Fans were longing for the time when you could wake up on a snow day, get on Fortnite with your friends, and play for hours.

On November 3rd, that longing for nostalgia was finally fulfilled. After a massive decrease in activity across platforms, developers at Fortnite finally decided to listen to the players. The original map has returned, and with it, so have a huge number of players.

Senior Drew Currin shared his thoughts on the update: “I am excited to revisit all the spots I used to land. It brings back so many memories with my friends.” Currin went on to say that he believed the old map was brought back “because the game fell off, and Fortnite needed to rejuvenate the game, so they brought back what the people wanted.”

Senior Noah Smith also shared his thoughts on the update, saying, “I want them to keep the old map and not change it back to how it was in the past couple of seasons.” He also added, “my favorite thing about the return of the old map is that I will get to have a little bit of how it was when I was younger and how fun it was to play.”

Both Currin and Smith said that they have played about 2-3 hours a day since the update, so it seems that bringing back the OG map is accomplishing Fortnite’s goal of bringing players back.
