Movie Review: Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

The cat’s out of the bag—Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is the newest hit movie for kids!

This movie follows up from the original Puss and Boots film and sees everyone’s favorite fearless feline fight against time to save the last of his nine lives and go across an unknown world to get that wish.

In the movie, Puss in Boots is on the run from a plethora of terrifically written villains, such as Goldilocks and the three bears, a mafia family that keeps the audience rooting for them.  Another villain is Jack Horner, a washed-up fairy tale played hilariously by John Mulaney, whose lack of humanity makes for lot of great older humor.

Finally, there is the Wolf named Death, and the performance of this villain is one that rivals Heath Ledger’s joker; he is quite possibly the best DreamWorks villain since Kung Fu Panda’s Tai Lung.  Death is cold blooded and genuinely puts the character of Puss and Boots in his place, causing him to rethink and come back stronger.  Their final fight is one of the best scenes since John Wick and also let’s Boots drop the coolest line in history : “Pick it up.” Dreamworks manages to make the character of death not only important to the plot but also intriguing and terrifying for a movie rated PG.

The amazing cast of characters is rounded out by an amazing supporting cast, the love interest Kitty Softpaws and the greatest therapy dog ever, Perro.  Even as a supporting character, the film kept Perro’s backstory deep enough to keep viewers interested and invested, showing just how well rounded this movie is.

If you're thinking of a fun watch for the family this weekend, check out Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. It has something for everyone.
