Teens Make Millions on Social Media
Today young adults, teens, and pre-teens have made over millions of dollars through social media. Over the past decade, social media platforms have developed into the number one for of communication for young users. Besides that, social media is also a tool used to make money, which is what influencers today are doing.
These social media influencers gain popularity through their specific knowledge on topics like beauty, fashion, education, lifestyle, and much more.
Influencers like Charli D’Amelio and Addison Rae have earned over five million dollars a year, which is roughly equivalent to making around $13,698 a day. This estimate is probably an understatement of how much money top influencers truly make. Influencers are able to earn this amount of money through branding and product sponsorships.
D’Amelio earns $100,000 per sponsored Tik Tok video. She has been sponsored by brands like Sony, Chipotle, and Revlon, and even has a drink named after her at Dunkin Donuts. Because of her success on Tik Tok, she has been able to expand her name and gain great success on other platforms, such as participating in a very well-known show, Dancing with the Stars. In 2022, Forbes estimated her net worth at around 20 million dollars.
Addison Rae made 8.5 million dollars alone in 2021 just from Tik Tok. Just like D’Amelio, because of the mass amounts of followers she gained on Tik Tok, she was able to grow on all other platforms of social media. For instance, according to HoppersHQ’s latest Instagram Rich List, Addison Rae gets $219,000 per sponsored Instagram post. From her Tik Tok fame, she signed a multi-film contract with Netflix, expanded her makeup and skincare brand, and also started a signing career. In 2022, Forbes has listed Addison Rae’s net worth is estimated at 15 million dollars.
Because of the development of social media, more and more teens and young adults have been able to make millions of dollars. Social media has allowed teens with large amounts of followers to become sponsored and sign million-dollar brand deals.
While this can be great for some teens who find success, there are downsides to having millions of followers along with millions of dollars at such a young age. The Pew Research Center found that the majority social media users in the US are teens between the ages of 13-17. The price for such huge success so early for many social influencers is being constantly watched and judged, which can take a toll on mental health.
