Class Spotlight: Moeller French

French is a class option in world languages for students who wish to learn the language for at least two years of their Moeller career.

Led by Mr. Hotze, French I, II, III, and IV cover the complexity of the foreign language to ensure that students have a full understanding of how to use it. This is done with various exercises and practices to help the student retain what he has learned as well as apply it to everyday life. Mr. Hotze regularly interacts with students in need of help or assistance, which gives the class a great atmosphere.

Mr. Hotze encourages each student to respect one another at all times, adding to the excellent working environment. Another strong aspect of the class environment is that Mr. Hotze always keeps students engaged. Aside from just learning the language, Mr. Hotze keeps the class informed with cultural aspects of France like traditions, history, and current events. This is to integrate the students within the French culture and better their learning experience. This could include music, French news, landmarks, and food preferences. There are also other unique activities that add variety to keep the class spontaneous.

All four of the French courses are meant to further the student’s linguistic ability. This class is set to help those who wish to study internationally, preparing them for foreign interaction for whatever profession they decide to take. Taking this course could open the eyes of students. As Mr. Hotze states, “I believe the study of foreign languages, and, in particular, the study of the French language, enriches one’s life.” He also says, “It gives the individual a greater appreciation and understanding of the global community.”

Overall, the French course sets the student’s sights on greater things, while widening their cultural perspective all around.
