New House Dean Profile: Jonathan Bennett

Meet Mr. Jonathon Bennett, the new Pillar house Dean!

Mr. Bennett grew up in the Cincinnati Area. Before coming to teach at Moeller, Mr. Bennett taught in a variety of different places and environments. He has 11 years of teaching experience. He spent six years in Chicago, four years in California, and one year in Massachusetts.

When asked about how he was able to come into such a large role at Moeller within a few short years of being at Moeller he said, “I’ve been blessed with a lot of different experiences within my career. I was a founding English teacher at a high school, so I helped build a school. I was a Dean of Instruction and the Director of Student Programming.”

Becoming the dean of Pillar House is not something that Mr. Bennett takes lightly. He really understands what weight this role holds here at Moeller. He says that he sees his role of house dean being “to serve the students by building programming and systems that will enrich their time at Moeller.” Mr. Bennett went on to say, “I hope to facilitate community founded on a shared sense of identity and purpose.”

During his first years at Moeller Mr. Bennett was a mentor teacher in Pillar House. As such, he has had a chance to see all of the levels of Pillar House. Of course, each house has their strengths as well as weaknesses. Mr. Bennett sees Pillar House as “a really strong community: physically, athletically, and in terms of being united as a group.” When asked about some weaknesses within the house, he says that some more focus on academics would not hurt.

Within the entirety of his years at Moeller and his future at Moeller, Mr. Bennett really wants to make an impact on the lives of his students by encouraging students to help and be there for each other. He also places a huge focus on being there for his students “academically, socially, emotionally, spiritually—however I can be of service.”

When asked about how he looks to make more of an impact in the coming years, Mr. Bennett says, ”I hope to build in more opportunities for community service with an organization I’ve been partnering with. I also hope to build a life community within Pillar so we can all grow even closer spiritually.”

Finally, Mr. Bennett wanted to add that “It is an honor to take over for Clayton Graham, who led the house for over a decade.”
