Moeller's Academic Team is Making Strides!

Moeller’s Academic Team is currently in the middle of its season, and it is looking promising!

The team competes against other schools in the local and regional area. The basic concept of the competition is answering questions, much like playing Jeopardy. Questions come from various categories, including history, science, math, geography, pop culture, language, and more.

The varsity team won its division during the regular season. Additionally, they placed top three in two of their past tournaments. One tournament consisted of ten teams: the other consisted of twelve teams.

Moreover, the varsity academic team qualified for regionals, which will be held April 13th. The team qualified based on the strength of their regular season matches in their league.  They still have a couple invitationals before then, but the playoff spot has been clenched.

The academic team was recently honored for its successes during the winter sports recognition assembly held during mentor group on Thursday, February 22nd.

The team consists of five seniors: Owen Brennan, Weston Gruber, Gavin Poetker, Luke Meyer, and Alex Schwab. Additionally, the team boasts Junior Joe Fitzpatrick, Sophomore Alex Borgemenke, and Freshman Joe Nanista. The JV team consists of Joe Hammond, Caleb Fitzpatrick, Randy Bruns, Zach Brennan, Gavin Cornelius, Lucas Gruber, Ben Swarts, and Steve Kirwan.

They will compete on Saturday, February 24th at Cincinnati State for the Department of Energy Region of Science Bowl.

For those who are not participating in either the JV or varsity academic team, there is also a house competition each year, which is a sort of mini replicant of the academic team. Furthermore, it can be more appealing for students to compete against familiar faces.

The academic team has strong leadership, and a bright future ahead of them!

Good luck to Coach Corder and all students participating going forward!
