House Basketball

House Basketball is one of many Marianist Cup challenges or games. Each house has a team with three students from each grade level. All the houses will play each other at least once, and then there will be a tournament for the best House Basketball team. Last year, Trinity and Zaragoza played in the championship game. The championship game is played on a B-day during mentor group so the whole school can watch. Last year, Trinity came out on top in first place, with Zaragoza in second place.

This year’s projected winners are either Pillar or Trinity. Pillar has Ben Riehle who has been dominant during the play-in games. Trinity has Xavier Stocks and Karson Lang, who were former Moeller basketball players while focusing on soccer now. Many students love the competition between former teammates during House Basketball, and all want to make it to the final game to play in front of the whole school.

Jake Bell, Eveslage House Basketball coach, said “Eveslage is looking strong this year with some key scorers being Connor Fuhrer and Carson Todd,” both seniors from DiCristiforo’s mentor group. “Connor is a shifty guard, who is electric from the three-point line,” said Jake Bell.

The Marianist Cup race for this year is very tight, with Pillar at 41.8 points, Zehler at 37.1, Eveslage at 36.1, Zaragoza at 35.8, Trinity at 35.2, and Quiroga at 33.7. Overall, the House Basketball tournament could be crucial for any of the houses in the top rankings, with four out of the six houses being within two points of each other.
