Teacher Feature: Jonathan Bennett
Jonathan Bennett has been teaching for 13 years, with 4 of those at Moeller. Bennett is a native of Cincinnati and a graduate of St. Xavier High School, where he swam for four years and was a GCL All-Star. He lives in Sharonville with his wife, Nicole, and two kids, Charlotte and Henry. Bennett is an English teacher, Pillar House Dean, and the swimming coach.
Bennett started at Moeller as a mentor teacher and soon realized he wanted to get more involved in the house system, taking over Clayton Graham’s role as Pillar House Dean. Mr. Bennett had some big shoes to fill after Mr. Graham won the Marianist Cup in his last year as Pillar House Dean. As House Dean, Bennett says he sees his role as “to serve the students and to build a really strong community academically and spiritually.”
In his teaching role, Mr. Bennett teaches courses such as Honors Freshman English, Oral Communications, and Gothic Horror and Literature. He emphasizes an environment of spirituality and a strong sense of community inside and outside the classroom. Bennett aims to connect literary texts to the students’ lives, engaging them with real-world problems and purposes.
Bennett took over as Head Swim and Dive Coach this past year. He has transformed the swimming team, nearly doubling the number of swimmers from around 15 to 30 for the 2024-2025 winter season. Bennett led the swimming team to 9th place at the State meet, scoring 96 points. He emphasizes a sense of community and culture as the swim coach, connecting all team members instead of separating them into Varsity and Junior Varsity classes.
Mr. Bennett holds a Master of Arts in Teaching with a focus on Adolescent Language Arts Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and Literature from Miami University. Through his multifaceted roles, Jonathan Bennett exemplifies dedication to student development, academic excellence, and athletic achievement, making him a valued member of the Moeller High School community.
