Moeller New Policy
Did you know that at Moeller High School, you must always wear your lanyards around your neck?
Moeller High School had emphasized an upgrade in their security system after multiple years of having people walk in and out of the doors freely. They had to make a change or an upgrade in security, so in the middle of the 2025-2026 school year, the lanyard was invented.
This lanyard acts as a key-fob that allows access to the doors of Moeller so the staff and students can come in before or after school starts. However, after school starts you can only enter through the front door and the side door by the courtyard. The lanyard also helps identify the students in the school, so if someone does not know your name then they can just look at the lanyard. The lanyard upgrades the security at Moeller High School, because it allows the right person to come into and out of the school.
Junior Xavier Root says, " I do not really care for the lanyards, but it does help the school because it helps identify who and who should not be granted permission or access to the school."
With the new implementation of the lanyards come with advantages and disadvantages.
Many students such as Joe Nanista say that they like the lanyard policy because it helps secure the school.
However, " I do not like the lanyards, and I think that other students do not like the lanyards. They are used more as a showoff tool, and they do not really benefit Moeller” Ryan Kanalas says. This shows the clear advantages and disadvantages of the lanyard.
The key advantages of the lanyards are helping to secure Moeller High School, while allowing the teachers to identify the students that walk around in the building or on campus. The key disadvantage of the lanyard is forgetting it. Forgetting your lanyard is a big problem at Moeller, because you will have to wait for another person to get you into the building with your lanyard, or you will have to go and buzz the front door, and the front desk will let you in.
Well now the question is, what will you have to do if you forget your lanyard. The answer is, you will have to go down to the IT desk and ask for a sticker. The sticker is used to identify who you are. If you do end up forgetting your lanyard you will be marked " out of dress code" and you are allowed up to eight per quarter. As of now the lanyards have been doing great things for Moeller. The doors have felt more secure and the campus has now become safer. According to Mr. Williams, “The lanyards could have more uses, like checking into games as a ticket or counting people for spirit events". This leads to a bigger question. Will, in the future, the lanyards see an increased role at Moeller.
