Let It Be

The Let it Be play is not about The Beatles but is told through their songs. It is a story of group of friends in the 60’s having to deal with the crazy world around them trying to figure out who they are.

The play is centered around the themes of antiauthority, love, conflict, and war. This is shown through a group of teenagers trying to navigate their lives in the 60’s. They dealt with the draft, Vietnam war, and other struggles they faced during that time. Even though there is so much conflict and hatred going on, there is a contrast shown with a love story told in the play as well. This story of love and war is told through The Beatles’ songs and is a celebration of them. The Let it Be play is directed by Mr. Girard and has a cast of 41 Moeller students with students from every grade level. Before the students joined the cast, they had to go through an auditioning process. The process was going on stage in front of Mr. Girard and singing a song of your choice. During this process they also filled out a form for what type of role they want (small, medium, or large), and Mr. Girard put them where he thought they would be best. This play is no small task no matter what role you get. For the smaller roles you are doing around 2 days a week from 6pm to 8pm and as the show gets closer, they also practice acts on Sundays from around 1pm to 5pm. For larger roles they spend even more time each week, which can be up to 4 days a week and even more time spent on Sunday. Even though they practice for multiple hours each week, everyone still has to practice at home by watching videos recorded at practice.

While many people think of theatre as a thing for nerds, this play is the complete opposite. The play is also a wonderful opportunity for Moeller students and something everyone should try at least once. This allows students to grow in the brotherhood at Moeller and to develop strong relationships with their peers. This is also an opportunity for students to find their passion in theatre and the arts and challenge themselves. One member of the cast, Dominic Chappano said did it because he “wanted to try something new,” “stepping out of his comfort zone,” and “to help build confidence.”  This is a perfect example of how great this play is, not only is it going to be an exceptional performance, but it also helps people build character. It helps people challenge themselves by doing something they normally would not do, and it builds character by allowing people to grow in confidence.

The play is shown at Moeller in the Paul E. Flaig Performing Arts Center. It is on March 26th, 27th, and 29th. On the 26th and 27th the show starts at 7:00pm but on the 29th the play starts at 1:00pm. The tickets cost only $8.00 if you are a student at Moeller, but it is $15.00 for an adult ticket. This is a play you do not want to miss as it will be a great performance with amazing songs by The Beatles and from all the work done by the cast.
