New Teachers For the Class of ‘26
Each year at Moeller there are new teachers coming into the school as other teachers retire or leave for other reasons. The class of 2026 has been blessed to see multiple new teachers come in who’ve been great in their first year at the school and certainly deserve some recognition from us.
The first new teacher for our class is Mr. Gettings. Joining the school our sophomore year, Mr. Gettings came in to teach Honors Geometry and quickly gained the approval of his students. His class was highly energetic and enjoyable, making an often-monotonous subject into something entertaining and exciting. Whether it was his out-of-pocket jokes or his crazy energy, Mr. Gettings always made class something to look forward to. He’s continued to be a beloved Pre-Calc and Geometry teacher within the school.
Junior year AP World students got the chance to have yet another first-year teacher. Mr. Tivin was especially unique in that not only was it his first year teaching at Moeller, but it was also his first year teaching anywhere. Once again, the students loved Mr. Tivin. His world history class was a little chaotic but genuinely enjoyable. He sprinkled in activities that made learning the material enjoyable instead of just sitting and taking notes, creativity being the motivating factor of his class. Being a first-year AP teacher was a difficult task, but Mr. Tivin certainly rose to the occasion, helping us succeed on the AP exam. He’ll be considered a legend by the class for years to come, as we all fondly remember Mr. Tivin and AP World.
Senior year we had two more new teachers joining us, Mr. Romer and Ms. Wessels. Firstly, Mr. Romer came in as a Philosophy teacher. Although he only had one section of seniors he came into the year very excited to teach the class. A very spiritual and intellectual person, he knew what he was talking about with real interest in the subject. A1 Philosophy gave all of us new perspectives on ways to think about the world and food for thought that led to students’ philosophy discussions permeating the rest of the school days. Combined with his insane basketball skills, Mr. Romer had a very successful first year at Moeller this year.
Finally, Ms. Wessels was the new AP Gov teacher this year. Coming from Chicago, she took over most of the course, leaving only one section to Mr. Schmitt. She’s led students to a great year. We’ve all loved the class discussions and opportunities to talk about our opinions and learn about how the government works by thinking about it ourselves. Overall, she’s prepared us well for the test and given us an amazing and enjoyable year.
