OPINION: Costumes at Moeller... GOOD IDEA???
There is something that many teachers and students would love to see at Moeller: MORE SCHOOL SPIRIT.
Senior School Captain Micah Pitts recently met with administration to try to come up with a way to see if seniors would be able to participate in the old Halloween tradition of wearing costumes. For this year, the plan has not been approved, but the administration and students are trying to come up with plans to reach an agreement for the future.
The proposal presented is outlined below:
Proposal to Moeller Administration:
The seniors would like to be given the opportunity of having the privilege to be able to wear appropriate costumes for Halloween on Monday, October 31, 2022. As a senior class, we have participated in many events and have become a good example for our younger brothers. We have been given full support by many of our deans and teachers, and in addition their trust as well. We hope to make this a new senior tradition, and one that underclassmen can look forward to. This new ritual will be forever appreciated by not only by the senior class but also those who will see the school spirit. In addition to wearing costumes, the seniors will share the spirit of Halloween with our younger brothers by bringing in candy for our Mentor Groups.
Below are the rules we propose for students wearing costumes:
No targeting a race or a group of people
Nothing political
No masks that cover your face
Nothing with nudity
No harsh language
No weapons
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Do you think Moeller should bring back this tradition or focus on making new ones? Do you have suggestions for rules/guidelines that should be added to future proposals? Let’s keep the conversation going and try to come up with innovative, safe, and fun ways that we can continue to show our school spirit. Feel free to submit ideas below.
