Letter to the Editor

The following letter was received by the editor of The Moeller Crusader. We appreciate our readers that have taken the time to write about the issues they’re passionate about.

To Moeller Students,

Hello, I am a student at Moeller High School, and I only want a few minutes of your attention. A couple of weeks ago Moeller held its annual Mom Prom. It may sound dumb to most students, but I feel that those who went had a great time. The mosh pits and crowd surfing were probably the most fun, and possibly dancing with your mom. But the soul reason of this letter lies in the problems that occurred at this year’s Mom Prom, which is the absolute destruction of the bathroom.

The students who participated in filling the toilets with sand as well as destroying paper towel dispensers should be deeply ashamed. The bathroom was left demolished, as it was an act of vandalism and destruction of property. In fact, the Ohio Revised Code states, “If the value of the property or the amount of physical harm involved is seven thousand five hundred dollars or more but less than one hundred fifty thousand dollars, vandalism is a felony of the fourth degree.” (Sections 2929.11 to 2929.18). For those who did this, they will not only get kicked out, but they will most likely have to face legal consequences. As stated, it is a felony, which will be traced on them forever. This could be life changing, as they lost many opportunities that they might have had.

Furthermore, the destruction of the bathroom caused a delay for spring sports who use the AC locker room, like rugby, lacrosse, and baseball. It is also ironic because some of these students could play one of these sports and decided to mess up their locker-room. This obviously caused a back up for the sports, and a chain of problems arose. Like leaving important gear or clothes in the lockers, which provoked the athletes. Thankfully it is back by now, but it was a huge inconvenience.

Learning from this occurrence at Mom Prom is a must. As students at Moeller High School we need to hold one another accountable. It is our school, and we should not tear it apart. I understand that we all mess around and get in trouble. But things like vandalism and destruction of property that we saw at Mom Prom cannot happen. This is only one minor step back for Moeller though, because we can all change for the better. With the brotherhood we have let’s all take care of our school. Moeller has changed my life for the better, and destroying it is like betrayal to something that gives you opportunities and family.
