Saving the American Lifestyle of Movie Theaters

This December I decided to go to the AMC in West Chester, Ohio to watch the new Spiderman: No Way Home. I remember buying the tickets online and heading over with my neighbor to the theatre. When we got there, I remember just like the old days taking the unlimited bin of popcorn from someone who had left it behind. This was something I used to do every Friday in 4th grade when my best friend and I went. I would take the huge barrel of popcorn and get it for free. As we sat down in our seats, I realized that this was the first time in about 6 months I had been to a movie with a packed theatre. The cinematic movie experience was amazing, and it made me realize how much I miss going to the movies. Over the last two years movie theatres have got shut down. And people are losing this American tradition that has been around for over 50 years.

This is the age of instant gratification. By the time you come up with the idea to see a movie, argue with your friends or girlfriend about what to see, drive to theater, wait in line for a ticket, buy some snacks, shimmy into a seat, and watch 10 minutes of trailers. it's been 2 hours since you decided to see a movie. Now I understand that Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, and others have movies at the click of a button. Some people fear Covid-19 as well and want to protect themselves. But the Covid-19 days are coming to an end and people are going to return to their normal lives.

The movie theatre business has gone downhill a large amount in the last 5 years, but especially since Covid-19 occurred. Film sets and movie theatres across the countries have had to shut down. According to Sarah Whitten on CNBC, tickets sales in 2021 were 70% behind what they were in 2019. According to Brent Lang AMC lost 4.6 Billion dollars over the last couple years .630 theatres have closed in the U.S. in 2021 according to Bloomberg. The theatres are dying, and people need to realize that movie theatres are an important part of America and a lifestyle. A large downtown theater used to often anchor the social and economic life of a neighborhood, and its closure often affected an entire community. Hollywood is a city known worldwide for movies and is always a place where you could run into so many sorts of celebrities.

Yes HBO Max, Hulu, and Netflix all have so many different sorts of movies, from new to old, comedy to drama, they have movies just at the click of a button. But some of these streaming services don't have the movies that come out right away and sometimes you must wait about 3 months to watch them. So, while you're waiting on your couch for three months to watch a movie, everyone else has already seen it.

Movie theatres are something that have brought community together in our socitey, and a time like now we defintley need each other. Hollywood is something that is a huge part of America, and something we can't let die. All I'm saying is that people usually have a great time at the movies and it s a great way to get out with friends.

If you believe in saving the movie theatres, we all need to do our part and go see the great new movies coming out. Including movies like Batman, Jurassic World, and the new Top Gun. These Movies are going to be fantastic movies with great reviews. Movies like these that are just coming to theatres will take forever to come out on a streaming channel. Why not go out with your friends and have a great time at the movies, get off your couch and get out of the house. Let's save movie theatres together and bring back that awesome cinematic experience with the amazing buttery popcorn, great movies, and the awesome recliners.
