Why Students Should Be Allowed to Wear Student Section Theme on Blue and Gold Fridays
By Nick Williams
During my time as a student at Moeller High School, we’ve had some fun, crazy, and funny student section themes for Friday night sporting events. The student section costumes not only make the game more fun to go to but also more entertaining for the fans and people watching. The student section is a key memory in almost every high school kid’s experience. The most important and best part about my student section experience is how we all come together on one night a week and cheer on our classmates while they’re doing something that they love to do.
I’ve talked to many of my classmates and some faculty and staff, and most have agreed it would be a fun idea to wear the Friday night game theme to school on Friday. It would help everyone know the themes before the game, influence more and more people to attend games, and make Friday game days more fun and exciting for the whole school. Still some people I’ve talked to have expressed certain downsides to the game day theme idea.
One major opposition is that some students might come to school out of uniform and try to claim they were matching the theme, even if they weren’t. While this is a strong possibility, I believe that only a very small number of students would do this, and I think that students who want to be out of uniform probably don’t need a theme day as an excuse. While this is still an issue, I feel the student section themes would do more good than harm should we be allowed to wear them on Fridays.
After talking with lots of students, many agree that we all believe theme days would help boost the energy of the day and the game after school. I’ve been told that some students don’t come to the games because they don’t know the theme and that they don’t know if people they know are going. Wearing the themes on Fridays will solve all of those problems. Another positive is for the players. During those days, players will feel as if they have the whole support of the school, and that feeling is unmatched.
All this would help the hype around the game, the confidence that the players have, and the energy and excitement from the fans, teachers, and staff. The student body would also be more informed and more likely to be involved and come to the games. In conclusion, the themes would not only make the Friday school day more fun, but it would also instill more confidence in the school's players, and the themes would help more classmates, teachers, staff, and fans come to the games and cheer on their favorite players and friends.
