Moeller Staff Making an Impact

Undoubtedly one of Moeller’s greatest attributes is the hard work and dedication of its staff. Dan Shannon, Carl Kremer, and Bill Braun have all played a role in shaping the current community of Moeller High School. Over the years each of them has filled different roles and positions to help make Moeller what it is today.

Carl Kremer

When I sat down with Moeller Principal Mr. Kremer, he told me, “Moeller goes through a change about every five years." He notices new types of renovations, students, classes, and teachers who all come and go leaving their marks on the Moeller community. This is thanks to himself and other staff that keep up with the times and adapt to a more modern environment. Whether it be improving the facilities or implementing new ideas like smaller class sizes, Mr. Kremer is always looking for a way to improve Moeller for the betterment of the students.

His biggest connections to the students is when he was an English teacher reading Romeo and Juliet and teaching about history. Mr. Kremer hasn’t only done work to improve Moeller on the academic side, but he has also taken many large strides with the basketball team. Since being hired as coach in 1986 he has led the Moeller basketball team to four state titles and over five hundred wins in the past thirty-four years. It’s safe to say that Moeller would be a very different place today with the influence and guidance of Carl Kremer.

Daniel Shannon

Most people know Mr. Shannon as Dan Shann the Man, but there’s more to him than a cool nickname. When he first started in 1984, he was only just a newcomer who knew nothing of the Moeller community. He spent his early years heavily involving himself in anything he could. He coached many sports such as football, soccer, baseball, lacrosse, and skiing. He loved meeting new students and learning about them and their families. As Mr. Shannon said, “Moeller is a place that never sleeps.”, no matter the time of day you can find someone at Moeller doing stuff like coming in early for test prep or staying late after sports practice, and that’s the kind of community Mr. Shannon has helped create. He also aided in the creation of the house system that so many students love. I couldn’t imagine Moeller without the brotherhood that the house system brings. Mr. Shannon has done so much for all the students he’s had in class, clubs, coached, and continues to make Moeller a better place.

Bill Braun

Bill Braun was one of the several students of Moeller to come back as part of the staff in 1977. Mr. Braun had been working at Channel Five News and told himself that he would only ever teach at Moeller. To him, no other school was worth leaving a position he loved. After a few years, he got a call from Mr. Ledford (principal at the time) asking him to be the new English teacher, and he took it up instantly. During his tenure, Braun was also the lead facility manager and helped build many of Moeller’s iconic buildings such as the gym, tech wing, and O’Connor center. Moeller could well look incredibly different without Mr. Braun’s help. He’s also been the assistant principal, dean of students, leader of pep rallies, and full-time math teacher. Mr. Braun seems like an unassuming man tucked away in his cave on the third floor, but behind the scenes, he has helped make Moller what it is today.

Think about your favorite teachers right now and imagine them years later in the future. I’m sure Kuhlman in thirty years will have a rockin’ beard growing and Mr. Jackson will have a full head of hair and six pack abs. Moeller is always changing because of the committed staff who make this place their second home, and make it their mission to improve it for the entire student body.
