Freshman Retreat Provides Opportunity for New Class to Bond
By: Aidan Sargent
On October 12th, the Moeller freshman had their first retreat at Camp Lebanon, giving them a chance to spend the day together and bond as a class.
Out of all the retreats, freshman retreat is particularly important because the freshman class is brand new, and the student body has come from all over Cincinnati. It is great chance for students to bond and get to know each other, especially for those who might not have had the opportunity to meet many of their new classmates.
This year’s freshman retreat consisted of small groups, games, and discussions designed to help students get to know each other and Moeller. In small groups, students talked about what it means to be a Man of Moeller, and they wrote a letter to their senior selves about the goals they want to set and achieve while here.
Freshman also had time to play games and were split up for volleyball, dodge ball, among others. Houses each freshman belonged to had the chance to earn points towards the house cup if their freshmen won. Finally, the freshman listened to talks from school captains Joe Ginnetti and Micah Pitts, Principal Kremer, and Campus Ministry director, Steven Joebgen.
Quiroga freshman, Noah Spivery, shared his experience at freshman retreat. “I loved freshman retreat; I had the chance to learn a lot about Moeller and my classmates in a unique way.” He went on to say that one specific thing he enjoyed was “all the conversations in small group and how the senior leaders told their stories and how to be a man of Moeller.”
School co-captain, Micah Pitts, explained that his experience as a senior leader was also good, saying “I got to connect with many freshmen I would never talk to or even know just due to the age gap and being in different houses, so that was a great part of it.” Pitt said he noticed many freshmen bonding with each other and getting to know new people in their class.
As for incoming freshman next year, freshman retreat is an exciting day to look forward to. It will help you get to know new people and have a fun time with your classmates.
