New Teacher Profile: Mrs. Evans

Ms. Evans is one of the newest teachers at Moeller. Ms. Evans teaches Personal Finance, Business Applications/Excel, and Marketing.

Ms. Evans comes from Trenton, OH, where her mom was the mayor, and she attended Edgewood High School. After high school, she attended Miami University in Oxford, OH, where she earned a BA in Psychology. She then attended The University of Findlay where she got her Master’s in Education. When asked about teaching, Mrs. Evans said, “I am a ‘people person’ and love being around other teachers and students. I also want to make a difference—to connect with the students and have them love the idea of learning as well.”

Mrs. Evans shared that she wished she had pursued her teaching career first. “I love [teaching] so much. However, on the other hand, I would not be the teacher I am today without the experiences I had in my other career.”

Mrs. Evans has had a good experience at Moeller so far. She said, “The students are respectful and kind, I have flexibility in lesson planning, and it is an overall positive environment.” She said that her family and friend circle is very supportive, and a little retail therapy helps as well when teacher burn out sets in!

One aspect about Mrs. Evans that sets her apart from other teachers is how she handles classroom management. “I understand that every student and class is different, and I try to adapt the classroom to meet the needs of that class. However, I give respect and expect respect back.” You can really tell that Mrs. Evans is a thoughtful, caring teacher who loves her students.

Ms. Evans also shared with me some advice she would give to first year teachers. She doesn’t compare herself to other teachers who have been building their classroom for years, “I want to do it all my first year, but I have learned I can’t do it all.” Her best advice for teaching is to “connect with the students and build a relationship with them. Get to know your students as individuals.”

Mrs. Evans, the Moeller family really appreciates all that you do here. You are one of many parts of what makes Moeller students become Men of Moeller. We are happy to have you here and hope that you have an amazing first year as a teacher!
