Moeller’s Head Football Coach Retires after 3 Seasons.

Mark Elder announced his retirement from the Head Coaching Job at Archbishop Moeller Highschool. Elder’s first season as head coach was in the midst of the Corona virus pandemic. Moeller football finished with a losing record and lost in just the second round of the tournament. The following season, Coach Elder led the team to an 11-4 record and a state semifinal appearance. Then in this past 2022 football season, the Moeller football team returned with a strong, rising upper class and high spirits in hopes of a state championship.

With a strong spring and summer, Moeller football advanced to a 13-2 season with another appearance in the state semi-finals. Moeller finished nationally recognized as one of the best programs in the country.

Mark Elder was previously with multiple collegiate programs and most recently was Eastern Kentucky’s head coach and was with the Colonels until 2019 when he took the head coaching job at Moeller.

Moeller Senior Isaiah Summerlin, commented on the impact that Coach Elder made on his football experience, “Coach Elder not only helped us become better football players, but he also helped us become better young men. The biggest thing that stood out to me about Coach Elder was how quickly he was able to learn everyone’s name and form a personal relationship with every player in the program.”

Moeller football was very blessed to have such a great Head Coach with Mark Elder as a part of their program for three years. Even though his time as the Head Coach is over, we are very thankful for everything he has done for the Moeller community and are excited to watch the team this coming year after coming off of two winning seasons.
