Final Beam Placed for Innovation Hub
Construction on the Moeller Innovation Hub has been underway for the entire school year, and just before students and faculty dismissed for winter break, the final support beam was put in place.
The innovation hub is designed as a state-of-the-art student learning center and will boast new technologies and capabilities in its classrooms. Before the final beam of the building went up, Moeller commemorated the event by having students, faculty, and staff sign it.
Not many people understood the significance of the beam signing, but Dean of Students, Mr. Shaffer, was able to shed some light on the event. "The beam has a big impact on us because it shows that we are going to be with the school forever, and having the highest beam signed is always good luck. Having that feels good to the whole school.” Shaffer went on to say, "The beam signing was a big thing for the school community in leaving their mark as Crusaders and leaving their legacy there for the years to come."
The goal of the innovation hub is to encourage creativity in the way students think and approach problems: “The main thing we need to put around our students is not wanting to just look something up on Google but to be thinking more deeply and anticipating the problems,” Mr. Shaffer said. Moeller is trying to put their students in the best position possible as they enter a rapidly changing world and workforce.
For the coming years, the innovation hub is going to be a big part of Moeller High School's success, driving students to be their best. Mr. Shaffer said, “In the 90s while I was in school, we had to remember everything and then take the test on Friday.” Moeller wants to change their students' thinking, moving further from rote memorization and focusing more on analysis and application of knowledge.
The innovation hub is currently still on time. There will be a soft opening starting with small classes in the fall of 2024, and in January of 2025, the innovation hub should be fully open and functioning.
