The Legendary "BigMoeBarrett"

Have you ever wondered who Moeller’s Director of Alumni is? Have you wondered who drives that big blue and yellow RV called “Marv?” Have you ever wondered who this “BigMoeBarrett” fella is on social media?

That would be Moeller’s very own Barrett Cohen. Mr. Cohen started working at Moeller in the spring of 2019. He quickly grew in popularity among the students because of his social media presence and his advocacy for Moeller sports. Although he attended La Salle, Mr. Cohen is proud to call himself a Crusader now.

Mr. Cohen studied radio in college at Ohio Northern University. At the time, he worked as an intern for Channel 5 and Fox19. After working for 18 years at the Hamilton Communications Center, he made a significant career shift. Mr. Cohen worked there for the Hamilton County Police Association as a hostage negotiator. Cohen started as the alumni director at LaSalle, his alma mater, after serving with the Hamilton County Police Department. Cohen loved working with high school kids because of this employment, and he covertly followed many of Moeller's practices even though he was employed at LaSalle. The primary reason Mr. Cohen fell in love with Moeller was because of his business relationship with former President Marshall Hyzdu. Mr. Cohen eventually made his way to Moeller after working for a while at LaSalle, where he began in 2019 as the Director of Alumni.

Mr. Cohen has gathered a large following on social media. Known as “BigMoeBarrett,” Mr. Cohen posts anything and everything about Moeller. He shouts out alumni, promotes different school athletic and academic events, and overall showcases Moeller’s student culture to the world. Some students were asked how they first got interested in Moeller, and more than expected stated that BigMoeBarrett’s posts helped them learn about the school.

Mr. Cohen has integrated himself into the Moeller culture substantially since 2019. Now, if a student is asked, “Who is BigMoeBarrett?” The student can almost instantly answer and almost always speaks highly of Mr. Cohen. He continues to shine in his role at Moeller, bringing students together and preparing amazing alumni events. These alumni events, such as the Sports Stag or Main Event, are some of the biggest contributors to the large donations that allow Moeller to fund projects such as the Innovation Hub or the Baseball Stadium.

The Crusader met with Mr. Cohen and asked him, “What does it mean to be a man of Moeller?, Mr. Cohen stated, “Since I arrived to campus in 2019, I've tried to articulate why Moeller is so special. It's very difficult to do. It's not a word or sentence. It's almost spiritual. You can't put a word or sentence to it. It just exists. The expectations of every student, faculty and staff member is excellence and that bar was set by those whose shoulders we stand on today. Moeller is everything to me. It's family. As the Alumni Director, I have the tremendous responsibility to protect and honor the legacy and tradition of the greatest high school in the country and the 13,000+ alumni who call it home.”

Overall, Mr. Cohen has been a great addition to the Moeller family, bringing both students and alumni together to really build the brotherhood. The students can’t thank Mr. Cohen enough for all he has done for the school in such a short period of time.
