The SRB Experience

The Student-Run Business is a fantastic way for Moeller students to gain real world experience, build leadership skills, and learn the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. The Student Run Business is located in the AC next to the locker room. The SRB benefits the school as the SRB is always coming out with new gear for the students and staff to wear. In the SRB the students are responsible for all aspects of the business including finance, inventory, manufacturing, sales, marketing, digital design, and training other students. All students get a front row seat in learning how to run a business efficiently.

There are many roles within the student run business that make it one. The CFO (Chief Financial Officer) is a role given to a second-year student in the SRB and he manages all of the money and costs of the shirts and profit margins. The CMO is the Chief Marketing Officer, and he manages all the social media accounts and comes up with new ways to expand the brand to others. Finally, there is the COO (Chief of Operations) and his job is to oversee all of the designs and make sure everything is running smoothly.

The Crusader - What are some new ideas you are thinking of implementing to the SRB this year?

Mr. Schmitt - “Some new ideas include doing production analysis when creating new shirts to see if we are missing any costs, whether they would come from mistakes and make sure we are running at maximum efficiency and following our economic model. Some other ideas are to try new products for new events and new clubs and come up with new shirt ideas with the guys.”

The Crusader - Do you have any new shirt ideas coming to life soon?

Mr. Schmitt - “This fall we have a bunch of new designs for a variety of events so keep your eyes out for our Instagram page, Emails, and MoeParent news. Make sure you get shirts for friends and family.

The Crusader - What makes the SRB special and why did you take the job of running it?

Mr. Schmitt – “I think it is a lot of fun to see all these guys use their creativity and show pride in their stuff being worn around school by students and staff. Students get to have a pulse about what all the teachers and students are talking about and putting that idea to a product showing our school spirit and community.”

After talking to Mr. Schmitt, everyone should feel very optimistic about the SRB in the upcoming years. There are many new ideas currently being implemented to the SRB and it will grow rapidly in the next coming years. This class is something everyone at Moeller should try no matter what grade they’re in. It is a great experience that you can use out in the real world no matter what you decide to do in the future.
