Moeller hockey is already off to a great start to the season.  The Crusaders skated their way to a championship at Notre Dame University.  The Crusaders went 3-1 at the University of Notre Dame Thanksgiving Tournament with 24 goals for and 10 goals against.  The Crusaders are projected to have a winning season and go deep into the tournament.  The squad has depth with 15 seniors and many that have been on varsity since sophomore year.  The team has a lot of experience and will work well together.  Head coach Mike Reeder went on to say that, “we have a lot of confidence in our system” and also that “no one lets their teammates down.”

The senior captains are Drew Totin, Jordan Walter, Tyler Totin, Shay Black, and Kyle Moore.  The captains are chosen by Coach Reeder based on performance that simply, “meets and exceeds expectations.”  These Men of Moeller couldn’t be more ready to take on the season.  Coach Reeder explained that the group of 15 seniors, “are as ready as they can be.”

We asked Coach Reeder why they play in a Columbus based league rather than a league here in Cincinnati.  Coach Reeder explained that they do this “to compete for state titles.”  He explained that since the NHL came to Columbus the league has grown in competition greatly.  By playing in this league it better prepares players on the team to play after high school.  Coach Reeder assured us that the team has a “legitimate chance” of going far in the state tournament.  Whoever comes out of the Columbus District will be a very competitive team and will have a good chance.

The Moeller hockey team has several goals that they wish to reach for the season.  Obviously, Coach Reeder’s first goal was to “Beat St. X”.  This is a goal for all athletic teams at Moeller.  The next goals were to “win the Capital Conference and win the district.”  The St. X game will be a “great game” as explained by Coach Reeder.  The Crusaders are completely ready to take on the Bombers.  The Crusaders are scoring a lot of goals early on in the season, with 63 goals for in league and tournament play combined.

We asked senior Tyler Totin what he thought about the start to the season.  Tyler went on to say, “I couldn’t be more excited” to see where this team goes this year.  He explained that the team moves as a “unit” and that all of his teammates are his “brothers.  Overall this Crusader Hockey team looks like they are going to do great things this season.  We couldn’t be more excited to watch this team throughout the year!
