Moeller Football Wins GCL Title

By Colin Young

For the first time since 2018, the Moeller football team has claimed the GCL title after an exciting win over Elder at Nippert Stadium.

The team improved to 7-0 on the year while having a preseason strength of schedule ranking of #9 according to Max Preps.

During the game against Elder, many players had big contributions to the win. Jordan Marshall had four touchdowns with only ten carries for 138 yards. Alec Weeder had thirteen carries for 108 yards with one touchdown for 67 yards. Moeller left 42-7 at halftime and had a running clock in the third quarter.

Moeller has played some tough competition this year including Massillon and Good Counsel. Good Counsel currently ranks #13 in the nation. The final score of that game was 39-31. The team has put countless hours into practice and has capitalized in every game so far.

The Crusader asked two current players their thoughts on what it feels like to win the GCL. Offensive lineman Carson Titus said, “It feels good to finally bring the GCL title back to where it belongs.” Star wide receiver Ryan Mechley adds, “It feels good. It feels like we deserved it and worked very hard for it. I hope to see St. X in the playoffs.”

Moeller has two regular season games left, St. Edward and MLK Jr. Both games will be tough competition for the team and will be very fun for fans to watch. MLK Jr. won the state championship game in the state of Michigan.

Moeller looks to make a very successful playoff run, with the goal of winning a state championship in mind.
