On November 11th, Moeller Soccer finished a historic season after a heartbreaking loss in a penalty shootout in the state championship game. Despite this loss, the accomplishments of the 2023 Moeller team are astounding. This team will go down as one of the greatest teams in Moeller history.

Prior to the state championship game, the Crusaders were undefeated on the season with 24 straight wins, scoring 92 goals, and allowing just one goal on a penalty kick. In addition to this, the Crusaders broke numerous records from both a collective and individual standpoint. On a collective level, the Crusaders set the second best “goals-against” record in the nation, with only two goals given up all season. They also set the record for most consecutive shutouts with 22. They also became the first ever team to go undefeated in the GCL. The Crusaders maintained a top three national ranking throughout the entire season, reaching the number one spot near the end of the season.

The Moeller players were honored at the end of the season with individual recognitions, rewarding their performances this year. Erik Warncke, Austin Nowak, Karson Lang, and Jose Stefano were all included on the All-GCL South second team. Sterling Segal, Mason Cooper, Bradley Poppell, and Maddox Miller were all included on the All-GCL South first team. Maddox Miller, Bradley Poppell, and Mason Cooper were recognized as first team All Southwest District. Moeller’s soccer coach, Mike Welker, was recognized as the Division I Boys Southwest Private School Coach of the year. Finally, Bradley Poppell was voted as the Division I Southwest Player of the year.

Despite the heartbreaking defeat, it is safe to say that Moeller Soccer has a lot to be proud of this season. With numerous new records and achievements, this Moeller team will go down as one of the best Moeller athletic teams in the school’s history. This is something for which the Moeller family is extremely proud.

Congratulations on a record-breaking season!
