Student Athlete Spotlight: Kyle Havens

One of the most popular winter high school sports at Moeller is basketball. The Moeller basketball team has had much success in the past with many state championships and former players currently in the NBA. To learn more about the Moeller basketball team for this upcoming year, The Crusader interviewed Varsity Senior Point Guard Kyle Havens.

Crusader: Where did you go to grade school, and what sports did you play?

Havens: I went to St. Peter and Paul Academy where I played basketball only.

Crusader: What is your favorite subject, and who is your favorite teacher at Moeller?

A young Kyle Havens goes for the shot.

Havens: My favorite class has got to be Cincy History with Coach Laake.

Crusader: What is in the future this year for Moeller basketball?

Havens: We have a ton of potential this year, and I believe we have the chance to win a state championship. With our chemistry, hard work, and toughness, we are setting the bar high, and we are certainly going to be a tough team to beat.

Crusader: How do you view your roll on the team?

Havens: Being a senior on this team, I am a leader. By my voice and actions, I am the person everyone looks to this time. Teaching the young guys and showing them how to work is super important to me.

Crusader: What is your favorite memory from Moeller basketball?

Havens: My favorite memory is winning the championship in Atlanta, Georgia during our Christmas tournament last season.

Crusader: Who is your favorite teammate?

Havens: It is hard to name just one, but my favorite teammates are the seniors: Noah George, Eric Mahaffey, and AJ Mcbride. It is also cool that I get to play with sophomores and juniors from my mentor group, including Cooper McCutchan and Griffin Mitchell.

Crusader: What is special about the Moeller basketball program?

Havens: The program is special because of the bonds you make and the characteristics of the program. It is built on the four core values of Arete, First Class, Team Attitude, and Toughness. The relationships and memories I have made will always be a part of my life.

Crusader: What is in the future/college for Kyle?

Havens: I plan to hopefully get a chance to play basketball at the next level no matter where it is. I plan on either getting a scholarship or being a walk on and working my way up.

A big thank you to Kyle for the interview! Best of luck to Moeller Basketball as the season gets underway!
