Moeller Basketball Season Review
Moeller Basketball had an action-packed season that featured many highlights, including sweeping St. Xavier, a tournament win, and a run in the OHSAA tournament.
After a rocky 0-3 start to the season, Moeller Basketball turned their luck around by winning the next ten games. In the middle of the winning streak, Moeller Basketball traveled to Atlanta, Georgia over Christmas break to win the Saint Pius X Christmas Classic in dominant fashion with three straight wins.
Moeller finished the season with an 18-8 record while going 3-3 in GCL league play.
Moeller entered the OHSAA tournament as a three seed and beat Harrison and Hamilton handily before scrapping out a one-point win against Lakota East. The team’s season ended in Dayton losing to Princeton in the OHSAA District Finals, exiting them from the OHSAA State Tournament as OHSAA District Runner-Ups.
Along with the team awards, four players received GCL recognition; Donovan Mukes and AJ McBride earned 1st Team GCL South recognition while Grant Smethwick and Kyle Havens received 2nd Team GCL South recognition.
Their season was filled with many other highlights including the second straight season sweep over St. Xavier by beating them with final scores of 46-38 and 34-31. The season was also filled with nail biters as eight of the games were decided by five points or less.
Looking forward to next season, Moeller will be graduating senior talent including Grant Smethwick, Elijah Turner, Dwight Turner, Nick Williams, Donovan Mukes, Jason Henning, Vinny Tallarigo, and Carter Yox.
