Moeller Baseball: State Champions

Akron is home of the beautiful Canal Park, where the baseball state championship is held every year. After a great regular season and being perfect in the playoffs, the Moeller Baseball team had the opportunity of traveling up to Akron to compete for the state trophy. Fortunately, the team came out on top!

On Thursday, June 8th, our Moeller Crusaders faced Walsh Jesuit in the semi-finals. The game was close the whole time. Toby Hueber, who started pitching for the Crusaders, went five shutout innings before Carson Marsh came in to seal the deal. Nathan Manley, CJ Richard, Ethan Sweat, and Clay Burdette each collected hits. The Crusaders defense did not allow a single error in the field. It was a chippy game, but the Crusaders managed to pull away the win, defeating Walsh Jesuit 2-0. Achieving this win meant that the Moeller Crusaders were heading to the state championship.

They were set to play Olentangy Orange in the championship on Saturday, June 10th. This game was led by another outstanding pitching performance from the Crusaders. Zion Theophilus went seven innings, the complete game, allowing only one run and striking out seven opposing batters. Yet again, the defense had their pitchers back, playing perfect in the field and going errorless. The offense was led by Connor Christenson, Toby Hueber, and CJ Richard who each collected multiple hits. The Crusaders won the game 4-1, which meant they were the 2023 Ohio Division 1 Baseball State Champions!

The Crusaders finished the season 31-3, and 8-1 in the GCL. They won 17 straight games leading up to the state championship win. They were ranked the #1 baseball team in the state, and the #5 team in the whole nation! The season was very successful and could bring some momentum into the upcoming 23-24 season.
