Moeller Golf Makes Its Return to State
Moeller golf has finally broken the 6-year drought of going to the state championship. The road to state started with them winning the sectional tournament at Glenview Golf Course. They shot an outstanding 3+ as a team led by team captains Will Daulton and Landon Harris. Landon posted a score of 69 and Will shot 73. These two players have been essential to the team’s success this year. After experiencing success in sectionals the team decided to use the same strategy of preparation going into districts. This strategy consists of creating a routing plan to manage the course. This preparation paid off in the district championship after the team placed 3rd, sending them to the state championship.
The State Championship venue has been moved this year and was held at NCR South Country Club. NCR South is a very demanding course that requires many difficult shots. The cold weather with rainy and windy conditions made it even more challenging. This reflected in the scores throughout the field compared to scores in the past years. Moeller was able to hold their own finishing 9th in the state with all five team members finishing in the top 60 individually.
I was able to sit down with Will Daulton and talk over his experience. He described state as a once in a lifetime experience. The course is very nice and really a special place to be. He is just trying to make it a normal round and have fun. Since freshman year he’s wanted to participate in state and finally got his chance. He is happy to set a standard for the younger members of the team and can’t wait to come back and watch them in the future.
